TDEC Training Workshop
Recertification and Continuation Education Requirements for Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control (EPSC)
Since the current General NPDES Permit for Discharges of Storm Water Associated with Construction Activities (TN CGP) became effective in June 2005, TDEC has required all inspectors of land-disturbing activities that fall under the jurisdiction of the TN CGP to have a working knowledge and training of erosion prevention and sediment controls. Effective June 17, 2007, all inspectors must satisfy this requirement by being certified through successful completion of the Level 1 Fundamentals of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) course and course completion exam offered through the Tennessee's EPSC training program. Because of improving technologies and anticipated changes in future permit conditions, TDEC requires that certification be renewed every 3 years.
Level 1 Fundamentals of EPSC Certification that expire in 2024 are eligible for the Recertification Course.
Other program courses will not be accepted in lieu of these courses to meet the Certification requirements of the TN Construction General Permit. Failure of an applicant to comply with Recertification deadline requirements will result in loss of Certification and removal of your name from TDEC's EPSC Level 1 Certification Listing, accessible at this Webpage under Level 1 EPSC Certification Listing.
Recertification options:
I. Level 1 Fundamentals of EPSC Certification expired prior to or on December 31, 2023
Because Certification has expired, Recertification must be obtained by retaking and successfully completing the 1-day, Level 1 Fundamentals of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) Course and Course Completion Exam anytime this year. Certifications completed in 2024 would expire on December 31, 2027. Check-in and refreshments for the Level 1 course are at 7:30 am and classes begin promptly at 8:00 am. See other course description, registration and agenda details under LEVEL 1.
II. Level 1 Fundamentals of EPSC Certification expires December 31, 2024
If your EPSC Certification expires December 31, 2023, Recertification may be obtained by successfully completing the following before the end of 2024.
Take a half-day (4-hour) Recertification refresher course and Course Completion Exam.
Recertification courses begin in the mornings at 8:00 am after check-in at 7:30 am. The only prerequisite requirement for taking the Recertification course is holding current Certification listing.
You will be provided with a copy of the Level 1 Recertification Course Handbook: Construction Site Inspection as Required by Tennessee's Construction Stormwater General Permit. All Recertification workshop participants are required to take a course completion exam in order to be awarded PDH credits and a TDEC Certificate of Course Completion listing.
